CROCHET NORDIC GNOMES TUTORIAL

The Christmas season has begun here! I’ve been wanting to crochet this little nordic gnomes and this year I finally got to crochet them. I’m hoping to have time to crochet a whole gnome family for my daughter’s school this Christmas.

You can customize them anyway you like it… their colors, their beard, their hair… christmas embroidery on their clothes… I leave the final touch up to your imagination. 

So are you ready to crochet them with me? Here is the written pattern, and at the end of this post you will fin the step-by-step tutorial.

MATERIALS:

You can use any medium weight yarn you want (from 3 mm to 6 mm), this will change the final size of your gnome. Use a hook one size down, this way the stitches will be tight enough. 
  • BODY: 10-20 grams of the yarn of your choice
  • HAT: 10-20 grams of the yarn of your choice
  • NOSE: some nude yarn 
  • BEARD MALE: some felt wool, cotton or yarn of your choice
  • HAIR FEMALE: some yarn of your choice, hair accessories
  • Filling
  • Scissors, stitch marker, yarn needle
STITCHES:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
sc blo = single crochet back loop only
inc = increase
dec = decrease

Rounds are worked on spiral, use your stitch marker on the first or last stitch from each round.

BODY:
Magic Slipknot
Round 1: 5 sc
Round 2: 5 inc (10 st)
Round 3: repeat x 5 times *1 sc, 1 inc* (15 st)
Round 4: repeat x 5 times *2 sc, 1 inc* (20 st)
Round 5: repeat x 5 times *3 sc, 1 inc* (25 st)
Round 6: 25 sc blo (25 st)
Round 7 to 12: 25 sc
Round 13: repeat x 5 times *3 sc, 1 dec* (20 st)
Round 14: 20 sc
Round 15: repeat x 5 times *2 sc, 1 dec* (15 st)
Round 16: 15 sc
Good time for filling the body up
Round 17: repeat x 5 times *1 sc, 1 dec* (10 st)
Round 18: 10 sc
Round 19: 5 dec
Cut the yarn, hide the thread 

HAT:
Round 0: slipknot, ch 25, sl st on first ch
Round 1 to 3: 25 sc
Round 4: repeat x 5 times *3 sc, 1 dec* (20 st)
Round 5 and 6: 20 sc
Round 7: repeat x 5 times *2 sc, 1 dec* (15 st)
Round 8 to 10: 15 sc
Round 11: repeat x 5 times *1 sc, 1 dec* (10 st)
Round 12 to 14: 10 sc
Round 15: 5 dec (5 st)
Round 16 and 17: 5 sc
Cut the yarn, go through the opposite stitch. Hide the thread inside the hat.

NOSE: 
Magic slipknot
Round 1: 4 sc
Round 2: 4 inc (8 st)
Round 3: 8 sc
Round 4: 4 dec (4 st)
Cut the yarn. Use the initial an final threads to join the nose to the bottom of the hat.
